Shanghai is a vibrant and dynamic city with an economy just as powerful. Over the culture and energy of this city has created a flourishing manufacturing sector. This book discusses Shanghai manufacturing design in two major sections. The first section is an introduction explaining the history of manufacturing in Shanghai, while the second section deals primarily with case studies. The products shown in the book range from news and entertainments to cosmetics to transportation. With 87 case studies, this book offers a rich look into Shanghai's manufacturing.

Multi-layer Lunch Box
Based on the traditional Chinese bamboo food basket, the multi-layer lunch box could store rice and dishes into different bowl-shaped containers. In addition, all containers were fixed with an iron frame and could be taken out one by one when the frame was rotated 90 degrees.
The “Forever PA17” Bicycle
In 1971, Shanghai Bicycle Factory began to produce the “Forever P17” bike, which was a 28-inch men’s bicycle. It was popular with customers since it was equipped with the chain set, chromium plating pallet, single support, revolving bell, pulling brake, and finishing paint. Its whole design paid more attention to functionality and practicality with well-proportioned overall structure and stable gravity. The concise mechan-ical aesthetics was shown by all parts of the bike exposed without any shielding. In terms of its lines, the straight line and the curve coordinated each other exactly, which was beautiful in appearance, balanced in mechanics, and compliant in ergonomics.
The "Panda 601" Radio
The "Panda 601" is a six-light three-band radio manufactured by the Nanjing Wireless Power Plant. In 1952, the Tenth Bureau of the Second Ministry of Machinery asked Nanjing Electric Power Plant and Nanjing Radio Plant to develop a radio amplifier and a radio.
