Book from the Ground is an ongoing art project by Xu Bing since 2003, based on the public signs and symbols he has collected from all over the world. It tells the story of Xiao Hei, a typical white-collar worker, who lives a busy and interesting life 24 hours a day. It reflects the author's views on the trends of symbols of language and his dream of having the same symbols of language all over the world. No matter what culture or education background the reader might have, as long as he/she is involved in contemporary life, he/she can understand this book.
